Shikonin and its ramification，β，β-Dimethylacrylshikonin, β-Hydroxyisovaleryl shikonin,Isovalerylshikonin etc are the main parts of the gromwell pigment.The highest content of the gromwell pigment is Acetylshikonin. It is absolute a natural pigment abstracted from the root of comfrey Lithospermum euchroma Johnstan Ligustrum Lucidum Ait by modern biotechnology.Widely used in fruit juice beverage, forzen sucker, popside,fruit wines,grease,cheese,spice,hot meat tin cosmetic,medicine membrane envelopes,capsule, synthetic detergents etc as purple to red coloring.
